Hello Everyone,
Just checking in to see if anyone is using sandbags to train Combat Athletes. If so, please let us know what you are doing. Thanks, Steven Mosley www.combathard.com |

I haven’t used the sand bags but have done some similar bag training for my martial arts for hand speed, grip strength & visual perception. I use a canvas bag filled with steel shot. It is called a grab bag or claw bag in Chin Na. This bag is approximately 5 ½ lbs and is used for one handed tosses. I toss the bag in the air in front of my face and seize it as fast as I can. You can also spin the bag and catch with the opposite hand. I even do some iron palm training by tossing the bag in the air then palm striking it and then catching it before it moves to far from the center of my body. There are many drills that can be done with the bag and it is also great for hand conditioning. Thanks for posting the question.
Hope all is well with you and your family, Merry Christmas & God Bless!

I use sandbags to train all combat athletes I work with as well as all youth athletes. They are phenomenal with the youths (9-12 year olds).
I prefer to use shouldering as my main exercise with MMA guys. Also been using Turkish get-ups a lot, clean and jerk, suplex throws. The Josh Henkin sandbags can take a beating! |
