John Brookfield is the founder, creator, and developer of the Battling Ropes System. John has been a leader in the strength and fitness world for many years now. He has been known around the globe for his amazing feats of strength and endurance. He has been on television with shows like Regis and Kathie Lee, The Today Show, and Good Morning America just to name a few. John has been featured in the Ripley's Believe It Or Not and the Guinness Book of World Records, as well as several publications including MMA Sports, Fighters Only and The Washington Post. John has authored four books, including Mastery of Hand Strength. Although John is 49 years old, he feels he has not yet reached his potential when it comes to his fitness level. By finding and developing the Battling Ropes system, John has found a new motivation to climb higher due to results that the system produces.



LEVEL II COACHES

JON BRUNEY

Jon Bruney is currently the only coach to achieve the grueling Level II Battling Ropes certified status. Jon has been on The Today Show and is listed in Ripley's Believe It or Not. He, along with John Brookfield, recently set a new world record by pulling a 20,000-lbs.-plus semi truck for the distance of one mile in a time of one hour and thirteen minutes. Thousands of people have witnessed one of Jon's Pressing the Limits motivational strength events. He is also the pastor of Zion Missionary Church in Fremont, Indiana.




LEVEL I COACHES

CHIP MORTON

Chip Morton graduated from North Carolina University in 1985 and spent his next six years as a strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate level where he worked with The Ohio State University and Penn State University. Chip is now in his 16th season as a head strength and conditioning coach in professional
football. Chip has recently become one of the first two professional football coaches to be certified in the Battling Ropes training system.


RAY OLIVER

Ray Oliver has been involved in professional and college sports for over 23 years. Ray is currently a strength and conditioning coach with a professional football team. He has coached at major colleges such as the University of Kentucky and the University of Kansas. Ray has been a head strength and conditioning coach with
professional basketball and has spent his last four seasons coaching in professional football. Ray has recently become one of the first two professional football coaches to be certified in the Battling Ropes training system.


STEVE MOSLEY

Steven Mosley is a coach with the Battling Ropes System and works closely with John Brookfield on many other projects. Steven has over two decades of law enforcement and corrections experience. He currently serves as the Director of Training for Force One Readiness and the Georgia Tactical Officers Association. In
addition to work-related experience, Steven has practiced martial arts for over 20 years and holds a first-degree black belt in Chinese Kenpo Karate, Filipino Kali, is a Senior Instructor under the British Combat Association and is also an Apprentice Instructor in Filipino Martial Arts & Jun Fan Gung Fu under Guro Dan Inosanto. Within the fitness arena, Steven’s accomplishments include USA Weightlifting Club Coach, a certified American Kettlebell Club Lifting Coach, a Crossfit© Level One Trainer and an ISSA Certified Fitness Trainer. He is also a certified Warrior Diet/CFT Level Two Instructor. Steven is owner and founder of a martial arts/fitness training business, Combat Hard Fitness & Fighting, located in the Atlanta area.


BRUCE PAHL

Bruce Pahl is the owner of Immortal Martial Arts & a certified Battling Ropes® coach under John Brookfield. Immortal Martial Arts is a leader in the industry & provides quality combat training & protective gear & Wing Chun/JKD wooden training dummies. Bruce is a certified Full instructor in Jeet Kune Do & Filipino martial arts
under Paul Vunak & Progressive Fighting Systems. He received a black belt in Chinese Kempo Karate in 1994 from Chuck Sullivan & Vic Leroux. Bruce is certified trainer in Circular Strength Training (Clubbells®) under Scott Sonnon. He has worked in the fitness industry as a gym manager, personal fitness trainer and nutritional consultant. Bruce specializes in functional stretch training, fitness & nutrition. CHARLIE LYSAK

Charlie Lysak is the founder of Primal Strength & Conditioning, which is a dynamic program for developing strength for real fighting, as well as virtually every other athletic endeavor. Lysak is one of the original Ironmind Captains of Crush. He is also a certified coach in the Battling Ropes System, under
John Brookfield. Being the son of reality fighting pioneer Grandmaster Walt Lysak Sr., Charlie Lysak has over 30 years experience in the martial arts and is well known for his expertise in reality fighting as well as strength training. He is a 9th degree Black Belt and co-founder of the Sento Method. Additionally, Lysak holds the rank of 7th degree Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu, 6th Degree Black Belt in Pankration, 6th Degree Black Belt in Kickboxing under the legendary Joe Lewis, as well as high level ranks in several other styles and systems. Lysak has been a coach for many Champion submission grappling and MMA fighters, more than 40 of them nationally rated in the Top Ten. Lysak is a member of numerous Martial Arts Halls of Fame, and has received many accolades for both, martial arts and strength training.


DAVID W. MORGAN

David Morgan has a Masters Degree in Health and Exercise Physiology. Additionally, he is credentialed as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, with Distinction and National Strength and Conditioning Assoc. Certified Personal Trainer with Distinction (CSCS-D). Dave is also a Level I
Kettlebell Instructor with KBC. Dave is President/Owner of Enhanced Fitness and Performance Inc. and he is a certified Red Cross Instructor. Dave coached wrestling for 36 years at Maple Heights High School, one of Ohio’s premier wrestling programs. Dave has also coached football, cross-country and track & field. Dave was also a nationally-ranked Masters Track and Field athlete and a competitive power lifter. Dave has coached hundreds of successful high school athletes in all of those sports, many going on to be outstanding competitors in college, including All-Americans in all 3 NCAA Divisions.


HAKIM ISLER

Hakim Isler is the Founder of Elite Guard, LLC, a martial arts, fitness and security training company. He has been involved in the martial arts for 22 years and in the security field for the 8 years. He is a second-degree black belt in To-Shin Do (modern ninjutsu) as taught by world-renowned author and Black Belt Hall of Fame
member Stephen K. Hayes. He is an ongoing protection specialist student of Executive Security International and is also part of the Spirit Quest Dojo. Hakim is a published author of I Choose to Act, a women’s self-empowerment book, and the forthcoming Battlefield Proximity Combat. In addition to the books, Hakim has also developed and instructed two curriculums, Assailant Countering Tactics (A.C.T.), a women’s self-defense system and Battlefield Proximity Combat (B.P.C.), a military combatives system. Hakim is a certified CrossFit and Battling Ropes instructor. He is also a certified Conceal Carry, NRA basic pistol, and Personal Protection in the Home instructor. Hakim has also appeared in a Discovery Channel “Unsolved History” episode on the Ninja and in several Martial Arts instructional videos.


JAMES WOODALL

James Woodall owner of Woodall’s Fitness Studio in Clayton, North Carolina. He has been a certified personal trainer since 1991 and has owned his own personal training company since 1993. James was a traveling personal trainer in Las Vegas and he traveled to client’s homes and offices all over the Las Vegas
valley from 1991-2003. He graduated from UNLV in 1995 with a B.S. in Fitness and Sports Management with an emphasis in Kinesiology. The local TV news station KVBC which is an NBC affiliate, featured James on Sunday mornings as the local fitness expert. In 2003, my family and he moved to Selma, NC. In November 2004, James opened the doors to a by-appointment-only fitness studio. Also from 2004-2006, he was a volunteer firefighter and first responder with the Thanksgiving Fire Department in Selma, NC. James was certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine in 1991 as a personal fitness trainer and held that certification from 1991-2006. Also in Las Vegas he was a Rehabilitation Specialist and Massage Therapist as well as Touch for Health certified. In April 2008, James took on a new certification called Z-Health. Chief (Jim) Brabon is the Director of Education for the Tactical & Operational Readiness Group (TORG). aspects of John’s Battling Ropes® System. SHAWN MANNING
Shawn Manning is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and the first RKC Instructor and Battling Ropes Coach in Wilmington, NC. She has been training since 1999 and presently works at Lumina Fitness near Wrightsville Beach. DR. MIKE MARTINO
Mike Martino completed his undergraduate degree at Furman University in Health and Physical Education in 1988. From 1990 through 1996, he completed his Masters and Doctoral degrees in Exercise Physiology at the University of Alabama. During his tenure at Alabama, he served as an assistant coach to the varsity swim team. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, he also served as a research lab assistant in the Human Performance Laboratory. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association and he is a Cancer Exercise Specialist through the Rocky Mountain Cancer Rehabilitation Institute in Greely, Colorado. Dr. Martino has been involved with world-class athletes for more than 20 years. He served as a USA National Team Swimming Coach from 1990 through 2000. He was also a member of the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Advisory Coaching Staff in Barcelona and Atlanta. His educational and coaching expertise have allowed him to travel to many different countries for various professional engagements. His favorite sites have been Russia, Spain, and Cuba. He recently conducted a presentation entitled Battling Ropes: A New Training Concept at the NSCA National meeting in Atlanta, GA, with John Brookfield. Currently, Dr. Martino serves as the Exercise Science Program Coordinator and Human Performance Laboratory Director at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia. He is the current NSCA Southeast Regional Coordinator and the Georgia State Director. He is an avid mixed martial artist who teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the Milledgeville Academy of Mixed Martial Arts. He is an extremely dynamic presenter who combines science and application. He travels around the country presenting on various topics associated with performance physiology and conditioning.


CATHERINE IMES
Catherine Imes currently lives in St. Louis, Missouri. She started working out with free weights 20 years ago in High School. Catherline is a certified Battling Ropes Instructor and is a RKC (Russian Kettlebell Challenge) Level 2 Certified Instructor and a Kettlebell Sport/Girevoy Sport Competitor. She is the current American Record holder in the Snatch with 200 total Snatches at the NAKF Nationals in San Diego. Catherline is the first U.S. Born Master of Sports.


JAMES P. CLEAR
James Clear is a lifelong fitness enthusiast with interest in physical training and functional strength. He was involved in swimming, basketball and baseball growing up along with outside farm work. James has a BS/BA degree in Marketing and is certified to teach K-12 in Physical Education & Health. He was involved in baseball and was a pitcher at Xavier University and in St. Louis Cardinals organization. He was introduced to Olympic style lifting in 1979 and participated in meets in 1993 and 1994. James is looking to use Ropes certification training to help the young and elderly with overall fitness and well being.


CHRIS MIZE
Chris Mize lives in Birmingham, Alabama and has over 25 years experience in fitness and mixed martial arts training. He was the first person to open an MMA-only school in Alabama and has cornered fighters all over the world. He holds black belts in Judo & jiu-jitsu and also teaches muay thai kickboxing. Chris has studied with a virtual who's who in MMA: Gene LeBell, Bas Ruttan, Marco Ruas, and Oleg Taktarov to name a few. An instructor under MMA legend Erik Paulson, he currently is the civilian combatives instructor for the 20th Special Forces Group in Birmingham. Chris is an expert with kettlebells and just about any other combat fitness implement. He was honored to become a coach under John Brookfield and add the Battling Ropes to his arsenal. Being in the healthcare field, he plans on implementing the ropes into fitness programs for bariatric patients and the more debilitated in his community as well.


VANESSA HOOD
Vanessa M. Hood is a Champion Powerlifter and is employed as the Director of Campus Fitness at Winston-Salem State University. She's an AAU World Powerlifting Raw Masters first-place Champion, World Record holder in the Bench Press & the Deadlift, Best Raw Masters Bencher, and an AAU National Push/Pull Raw Masters first-place Champion. Vanessa is a natural and drug-free champion powerlifter with a career as a fitness professional.


MICHELLE BENEDICT
Michelle Benedict received a degree in 2001 from Brigham Young University in exercise physiology. She is a collegiate athlete who specializes in strength and conditioning and the treatment of sports-related injuries. Michelle is a USA Weightlifting Club Coach, CrossFit Level II instructor, Catalyst Athletics Level I Coach, and Battling Ropes Level I Coach. She has had the opportunity to coach many National Champion Cheerleading Squads, as well as be an active competitor in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. She excels in Olympic Weightlifting and continues to increase her skill set of strength and conditioning through many Continuing Education programs. Michelle coaches athletes of various levels of ability to success through a variety of protocols. She has designed High School Football, Cheer and Soccer Programs to Kids Healthy Living programs. Michelle has extensive experience in rehabilitation of sports-related injuries; She had the pleasure of working with athletes at Performance Chiropractic, CrossFit NC, CrossFit Cape Fear, and she is the founder of CrossFit Fort Bragg. Michelle administers to athletes with Functional Movement evaluations, and appropriate corrective protocol. Prior to CrossFit, she had the opportunity to learn a diverse understanding of Orthopedics, where she assisted for 3 years. She enjoys sharing time with people that can make her laugh, and, of course, training!

Tim Anderson is a professional fire fighter living in Fuquay-Varina, N.C. He also doubles as an ACE C.P.T., an RKC II instructor, Z-health Level I instructor and a Battling Ropes Level I Coach.
